Echoes of Saturn is a 2D visual novel centred around Saturn Aczél (they/them), a 23yo art student, as they navigate through a difficult visit to their hometown, following the death of their grandfather. Having to attend the funerals, they are confronted with memories from their childhood, and must then manage their mental health as they are faced with trauma from their past.
The art style is meant to echo a form of self-documentary put together by the main character as a way of handling the situation, and the gameplay mechanics include time and energy management, the mental health issues Saturn is facing being a big part of the gameplay as the player collects memories and discovers the village. The end goal is to get Saturn to attend the funerals at the end of Day 6.
The game is still in development, but the demo is available on itch.io. It was made as a school project for my diploma, and is part of a wider universe.
This game is heavily anchored to my own personal story and my personal experience. I hope this project will resonate with others, whether your own experiences are very similar or not at all to mine.
