"Colossis Castle" is a reimagined version of The Beauty and the Beast, as if I was making a pitch for a game to a video game company. The assignment was given by our Character Design teacher, who asked us to pick a fairy tale and turn it into Concepts for a video game.
Translation of the A/N:
"A few things I wanted to point out
I wished to clear up some things that, while not necessarily major parts of the work and closer to details, still seemed important enough to note.
About the research...
- I had originally began the project with Blue Beard, but after some work, it appeared that my Blue Beard looked like the Beast. I then switched the The Beauty and the Beast.
- I put my research linked to Blue Beard because it guided me to the change, and you can see the common points between them.
- The outfits are all based on historical outfits from the 18th century(*), meanwhile my original designs were closer to medival outfits.
(* in France)
About the game itself...
- The game is a stealth game, as well as an investigation game.
- The game is in 2 big parts (not counting the cinematics), with 2 different antagonists. The first part, in the Castle, presents the Beast as the enemy, until the player discovers that he is protecting the Village despite his appearance, along with his past and the events that led to him being cursed. The second part, starting from the Village to get back to the Castle, shows that the real enemy is the Jealous Man, symbolising the powerlust, controllust and greed of men, along with their fear of the unknown and what cannot be controlled.
About the colors as a whole...
- The Jealous Man and the Beast are both dressed in blue at first, as the Jealous Man represents what the Beast was before he tried to get better and made efforts to become a better person.
- The Beauty and her Father are both in warmer tones (yellow to red for the Beauty, brown for the Father) as they're supposed to represent good hearted people. Same goes for the Prince - once he turned into a man again, his outfits holds some gold and red, to show the effects the Beauty had on him.
About the Beauty's outfit specifically...
- As a farmer, she's carrying 2 books - one yellow, one blue -, to represent herself and the Beast. A detail, true, but done on purpose.
- The corset she wears as a farmer is identical to/the same as the one she wears as a princess under the exterior of her dress.
- The knot holding her hair when she's a farmer is identical to/the same as the one she wears on the front of her dress as a princess."
